We are frequently asked how to transition to healthy hair, so we decided to dedicate an entire blog post to it.
We know that you are eager to get your curly hair healthy again, but unfortunately, it takes time and effort to repair damage. There is no one perfect way to go about transitioning, either.
Because everyone's hair is different, the key to getting healthy hair is understanding your own individualized needs.
Depending on factors such as your final goal and daily routine, you will have to adjust your methods of care accordingly.
However, it is possible for anyone to achieve healthy locks with the right education on how to treat their strands.
Can you turn unhealthy, dry, and brittle hair into soft, smooth, and glossy locks?
It depends on the extent of the damage. Many people forget that hair is delicate and can be easily damaged by sun exposure, chemicals, styling tools like flat irons, or even just brushing too hard.
If you want to achieve healthy hair, it all starts with creating and establishing a regimen. Here are some tips on what to expect and how to make the transition.
First things first. The first step to repairing your hair and making it healthier is by clarify your hair.
To have the strongest possible foundation for your new hair care regimen, we recommend using our clarifying shampoo. Your hair probably has all sorts of product build up from before that can now negatively affect the condition of your strands.
Not only is it a good idea to clarify your hair, but keeping your scalp clean is vital to healthy hair growth.
Avoid products with toxic or drying ingredients. You know the saying, "you get what you pay for?" That old adage is certainly true for many things, including hair care products.
In an effort to be thrifty, we sometimes ignore why some products cost less. Oftentimes, it's because they use subpar materials or include fillers.
This isn't to say that cheaper items are always bad – but rather, that you should look past the price and consider what is important: quality ingredients and how well the product actually works.
Our products are made with carefully selected wholesome Ingredients. All of our products have undergone third-party testing and they are Dermatologist approved. This means that every Bounce Curl product can truthfully claim to be non irritating to the skin.
In order to transition your hair successfully, you need to be willing to put away the things that caused damage in the first place.
There is no middle ground – transitioning means no chemicals (i.e. relaxers), no direct heat, etc.
Many beautiful hairstyles can be achieved without the use of heat:
- Try protective hairstyles, i.e., perm rods, twists outs, braids, etc.
- You can also invest in satin/silk scarves/pillowcase (better material for your hair), headbands, and cute clips to create updos and different styles.
Enlist the help of a professional curly hairstylist. If your hair is damaged, don't keep it just for the sake of having long hair. Ask a professional stylist for help deciding whether to do the big chop or cut off your damaged hair gradually. They can also suggest which haircut will look best on you.
Be gentle. Gently detangle your wet hair with a wide-tooth comb or your fingers. Your strands are most susceptible to breakage when they're soaked, so be extra gentle.
If direct heat and chemicals have damaged your hair, it won’t be as strong or healthy now as it will be once it has recovered from the damage.
Keep your hair moisturized. One of the most essential things with transitioning hair is moisturizing it. Deep conditioning will help dry and damaged hair to become healthier and more manageable.
Restoring moisture, maintaining elasticity and promoting shine are all achieved by using deep conditioning treatments. Your hair will be less prone to breakage and frizz.
Focus on nutrition. We all know that processed foods don't provide you with essential vitamins. Hair thrives off of specific vitamins found in a healthy diet. Vitamin supplements can provide your body with the nutrients essential for hair growth.
We have hair vitamins that are formulated to give your body what it needs to help strengthen the appearance of hair, skin, and nails.
Remember: It might take a few weeks for you to get used to your new hair routine, but it'll be worth it when you start seeing results. Be patient and consistent with your regimen, and you'll achieve healthy, hair in no time!
